Aadhaar Card Update Online

The Aadhaar card is a 12-digit unique identification number provided to every individual residing in the country. As the Aadhaar Card is an important document issued by the Government of India, people need to ensure that the information captured is up-to-date. Fortunately, they can easily update it online through the official UIDAI website or by visiting the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre in person. A user has the option to update various details on their Aadhaar Card through the UIDAI. These details include name, mobile number, date of birth, email address, residence address, marital status, photograph, fingerprints, and iris data. Situations where you may need to Update your Aadhaar Card:

  • Changing your name or address.
  • Relocating to a new place.
  • Rectifying existing errors, such as incorrect spellings or addresses.
  • Correcting biometric information.
  • When a child reaches the age of 15.

NOTE: ‘NAME’ IN AADHAAR CAN BE UPDATED TWICE. DATE OF BIRTH AND GENDER CAN BE UPDATED ONLY ONCE. IF UPDATION EXCEEDS THE PRESCRIBED LIMIT THEN IT IS DONE THROUGH THE ‘EXCEPTION HANDLING PROCESS.’

Documents required to Update Aadhaar Card:

  • Proof of Identity: Passport, PAN card, Ration card, Voter’s ID, driving license.
  • Proof of Relationship: Pension card, State Government card, passport, Army Canteen Card, NREGA Job Card.
  • Date of Birth (DOB): Birth certificate, Birth Certificate (issued by a Gazetted officer), passport, SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate).
  • Proof of Address: Bank statement, bank passbook, ration card, driving license, Voter’s ID.

To update or correct Aadhaar card information, residents are required to provide specific documents depending on the details that need revision. 

Two ways to Update / Correct details in Aadhaar:

  1. Visit Aadhaar enrolment centre / Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK).
  2. Via the online UIDAI website.

10 Steps to Update Aadhaar Card Online (Address Change):

Existing Aadhaar card holders can update their address online. Firstly, users need to update and register their mobile number with the UIDAI.

  1. Access the official UIDAI website, uidai.gov.in.
  2. Under ‘My Aadhaar’ select ‘Update Demographics data and check Status’.
  3. You will need to log in on another website after redirection.
  4. Enter your Aadhaar card number and captcha code.
  5. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP.
  6. Once logged in, select the option ‘Update aadhaar online’.
  7. Read instructions given on the webpage regarding the process to update address and click on ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’. 
  8. Attach the required address proof document to support your request for address update.
  9. After submitting the update request, the system will redirect you to the payment portal where you will need to pay Rs. 50 for an address update.
  10.  You will be provided with a URN (Update Request Number). You can use this URN to track the progress of your Aadhaar card update. The process of updating addresses in Aadhaar takes up to 90 days. 

How to Update Aadhaar card by visiting the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre: 

1. Locate the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre in your area during its operational hours.

2. Request the operator at the centre to provide you with an application form.

3. Fill out the Aadhaar update form with the correct and updated details.

4. Submit the form along with the required supporting documents.

5. Once you submit the form and documents you will be required to pay Rs. 25.

6. Provide your biometric information, including fingerprint and iris scan, as requested by the enrolment centre.

7. Collect the acknowledgement slip provided to you after the update request.

8. Keep the acknowledgement slip safe because it contains the URN (Update Request Number), which you can use to track the status of your update request.

9. Your updated Aadhaar card will be sent to your registered address within the prescribed time frame.

It is important to carry all the necessary documents and ensure that the information provided is accurate and up-to-date during your visit to the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

How to Update Mobile Number in Aadhaar Card:

1. Visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra in your area.

2. Complete and submit the required application form available at the centre. Ensure that you provide the correct new mobile number.

3. After submitting the form, you will receive an acknowledgement slip. Your mobile number update request will be processed.

Please note that updating the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card cannot be done online through the UIDAI website. It requires a visit to the Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

How to Update Photo in Aadhaar Card: 

Changing the photo on your Aadhaar card cannot be done online. To update the photo, you need to visit the Aadhaar Permanent Enrollment Center and follow these steps:

1. Visit the nearest Aadhaar Permanent Enrollment Centre. 

2. Collect the Aadhaar enrolment form. You can download the form from the official UIDAI website or get it at the enrolment centre.

3. Fill out the necessary details on the form.

4. Submit the form and provide your biometric details as required.

5. A photograph will be taken by the enrolment centre executive.

6. Provide the necessary biometric details for verification.

7. Pay a fee of Rs.100 to update the biometric details on your Aadhaar card.

8. You will receive an acknowledgement slip with an Update Request Number (URN) for reference. You can use this URN to check the status of your request.

No additional supporting documents are required for updating the Aadhaar card photo. The processing time for the request is approximately 90 days.

How to Update Date of Birth in Aadhaar Card:

1. Go to the website https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ and login to your account.

2. Enter your Aadhaar number and the Captcha code, then click on ‘send OTP’. You will receive a one-time password on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on the login option.

3. Once logged in, you will see various services on the homepage. Choose ‘Update Aadhaar online’ to update your date of birth. You will be redirected to a new page where you can learn about the update process. The online portal allows you to make minor corrections in your name, date of birth, gender, language, and address.

4. After reading the instructions, click on ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’.

5. Select ‘Date of Birth’ from the options provided.

6. For Date of Birth correction, you need to upload a scanned copy of the original supporting document. Ensure that the document is in your name and is up-to-date.

7. Upload the required documents and make a payment of Rs 50 using credit/debit card or net banking.

To change your date of birth, you need to provide a supporting legal document such as a passport, SSLC book or certificate, mark sheet from a university or government board, or a photo identity card.

How to Update Name in Aadhaar Card:

1. Visit the My Aadhaar portal and log in.

2. Select the “Name/Gender/Date of Birth & Address Update” option.

3. Click on “Update Aadhaar Online.”

4. In the online form, choose “Name” as the field to be updated and click “Proceed to Update Aadhaar.”

5. Enter the required demographic information and upload a scanned copy of the original supporting document.

6. Pay the non-refundable fee of Rs. 50.

7. Note down the Service Request Number (SRN) for tracking the status later.

8. After the internal quality check is completed, you will receive an SMS.

9. After submitting your Aadhaar update request online, you will receive a URN (Update Request Number) for tracking purposes.

UIDAI permits online updates for changing the last name after marriage, but complete first name changes require offline centers.

How to Update Email ID in Aadhaar Card:

1. Visit the official website of UIDAI.

2. Access the Self Service Update Portal.

3. Select the field for updating the email ID.

4. Fill in the necessary details in the form.

5. After submitting the form, a URN/SRN will be generated.

6. Scan the original document as proof and attach it with the update request.

7. The process is nearly complete, and the URN/SRN number will allow you to check the status of your Aadhaar update.

Connecting your email ID to your Aadhaar card is important because it serves as an alternative method to receive OTPs in case you are unable to receive them on your mobile phone.

Things to remember when updating Aadhaar: 

  • Ensure that the new details you provide are accurate. Additionally, submit the required self-attested documents along with the application form.
  • You can fill in the necessary details in either English or your local language.
  • Keep the Unique Request Number (URN) safe as it will help you track the status of your Aadhaar update application in the future.
  • If your mobile number is not linked to your Aadhaar, visit the nearest Aadhaar service centre to get it linked.
  • Fill out the application form using capital letters and provide all the necessary details.
  • Submit the relevant documents along with the duly-filled application form.

Reasons your Aadhaar Update requests were rejected:

  • Insufficient submission of documents during the application process for Aadhaar card.
  • Failure to self-attest the required documents.
  • Discrepancies between the details provided on the application form and the details mentioned in the submitted documents.
  • Errors in the submitted form or documents can lead to the rejection of the Aadhaar update request.

To avoid Aadhaar Change / Update request rejection follow these steps: 

  • The document must be in the name of the applicant requesting the update.
  • The uploaded document should be a clear, coloured scan of the original document.
  • To make a name correction (minor correction only), address correction, and date of birth correction, you need to provide a scanned copy of the original supporting document.
  • Ensure that the supporting document is in your name and is valid. 
  • If you are providing a certificate in UIDAI standard format, double-check for common mistakes such as issue date, crossed sign, stamp across the photo, and no overwriting to avoid rejection of the request.
